Time flies, and now I am stepping onto the road of full-time ministry. Looking back at the three years that swiftly flew by, I wonder what marks has the God of grace left behind. To describe these three years, I would say that the path of theological training I traveled was one that was unknown and perilous, yet loving and fruitful. Had it not been for God\u2019s keeping and protection, I dare say that I would not have been able to step onto this path. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>The Unknown Path<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000\u201cUnknown\u201d was how I felt having to deal with changes in my daily life. From working full-time to studying full-time, I needed to establish a disciplined routine and adapt myself to a student\u2019s way of living. Meanwhile, the requirements of different courses were extremely difficult for someone like me, who was never much of a diligent student. Besides, I had to get to know someone or something new in both classrooms and the dorm. The change in identity as a seminary student meant that I had to deal with expectations from others as well as myself. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>The Perilous Path<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000There are \u201cperils\u201d: when spending more time focusing on God, I saw my true self including a sinful nature even as God taught me with His word. Although I became more knowledgeable in theology, that did not help me become more obedient to God. On the contrary, with the heavy workload of my study, and the competing demands from different aspects of my life such as studying, family, and services, I was prone to fall into the trap for pursuing mere academic achievement. With such a distorted motivation, my faithfulness for serving the church was eventually affected, and my family responsibilities were neglected. It consequently led to a breakdown in my relationship with God, and myself trapped in a vicious cycle of sin without even knowing. God finally became an object of intellectual study. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>The Loving Path<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000However, God\u2019s gracious hands have never left me on this unknown and perilous path. It is God who showed me my constraints. Having constraints is not a bad thing, and realizing one\u2019s constraints allows one to be aware of one\u2019s own incompetence. That said, accepting my own limitations was difficult as I had to face how incapable I was. But do not our own limitations help us see more of God\u2019s grace? When we are faced with our inadequacy, is that not the time to humble ourselves and rely on God? Whoever can live without accepting God\u2019s grace? Once I repented and turned to God, I gave up on the thought of being the lord of my own life, accepted my constraints and let God be my Lord again. I also prayed to the Holy Spirit to strengthen me, and to help me, by His grace, faithfully trust the God of creation, salvation, and hope. Thanks be to God, whose love I have been deeply immersed in, so that I could understand how beloved I am. I need not care about how others look at me. All I need is to turn my eyes upon Jesus. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>The Fruitful Path<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000On the other hand, God put me and my family in this loving community of faith. He has granted me numerous companions, who keep me company while we learn to live together and love each other. Together, our lives were full of laughter and tears as we shared and prayed and learned to accept each other. <em><strong>I am grateful to God for all those who have walked alongside me; through their company I can see God\u2019s presence. <\/em><\/strong> They fueled me with much power and made my journey on this path a fruitful one. <\/p>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000Last but not least, I must thank God for giving me my best companion and wife, Wing-mui. Her sacrifices and support let me focus on my study with a peace of mind. And it was through her that God gave us our boy, Jeremy, in 2018. Time flies, and now I am on the road of preaching. Looking back on the past three years, what traces has the gracious God left in it? If I were to describe these three years, I would say: the road of theology is strange and dangerous; at the same time, the road of theology is loving and abundant. If it were not for God&#039;s protection and care, I dare say that I would not be able to embark on this road of theology. Strange road &quot;Strange&quot;: Because the rhythm of life has changed, I switched from full-time work to full-time study, and I need to establish a regular lifestyle to adapt to this study life. At the same time, facing the requirements of different subjects, I, who used to neglect learning, felt very difficult. In addition, whether in the classroom or dormitory, I also need to get to know different people and things again. In addition, my identity has changed. I have become a theology student. I have to face the expectations of others and myself. The Dangerous Road &quot;Dangerous&quot;: Since I spent more time focusing on God, He taught my life through His words and made me discover my sinful nature. Although my theological knowledge has increased, it has not enabled me to obey God more deeply. On the contrary, facing heavy homework and being torn between studies, ministry, family and all aspects of life, it is easy to fall into the trap of blindly pursuing grades, distorting learning motivation, and then losing loyalty to serving the church, and ignoring my due responsibilities in the family, which eventually led to a breakdown in the relationship with God and wandering in sin without knowing it. God eventually became an object of knowledge. The Road to Be Loved However, on this strange and dangerous road, thank God for never leaving my hand! God made me know my limitations; having &quot;limitations&quot; is not a bad thing. Knowing &quot;limitations&quot; allows me to see my shortcomings. However, it is difficult to accept my limitations because it requires me to accept my shortcomings. But, can&#039;t people see God&#039;s grace more in their limitations? When people admit their own shortcomings, shouldn\u2019t they be humble and trust in God? Who can live without God\u2019s grace? When I confessed and repented before God, I gave up the idea of \u201cbeing the master of my own life\u201d, accepted my own limitations, and regarded God as God again. In addition, I prayed for the Holy Spirit to strengthen me so that I could rely on His grace and faithfully trust in this God who created the heavens and the earth, saves and gives hope to people. Thank God for letting me deeply experience His love and teaching me to know that I am \u201cloved\u201d. I don\u2019t need to look at other people\u2019s eyes on me, I only need to focus on Jesus Christ. The Road to Abundance On the other hand, God placed me and my family in this faith community that practices love. During these three years, He not only gave me many companions so that I was not alone, but also allowed us to practice loving each other while learning and living together. We live together, share together, pray together, and learn to accept each other. Of course, there are laughter and tears in the process.
