In a trice, I have to leave the Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary (HKBTS).<\/p><h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Began School with a \u201cProblem Awareness\u201d <\/strong><\/h3><p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000I can still remember one of the reasons that I decided to enroll this course was due to my participation in a theological thinking workshop held by Prof. Andres Tang in the \u201cTheonous\u201d Bible Conference. It was in 2016. Prof. Tang led the participants to reflect on what theology is required in the current social and political context of Hong Kong. He commented that churches in Hong Kong are unable to respond to the present social situation because we have not made a serious effort to think about those issues. The Church\u2019s inability to make a response is indeed a consequence of reaping what she sowed in the past. However, it is better than nothing if we are aware of the problem now and begin to think. Thus I began school at HKBTS with this \u201cproblem awareness\u201d; hopefully I would be able to think about those related questions for the Church with those who share the same concern.<\/p><h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Start with the Basics<\/strong><\/h3><p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000In fact, these are not easy questions to sort out. Moreover, the theological studies in these two years were quite hectic that I did not have much time to reflect and ponder on those issues. Yet, I know that \u201cequipping myself with the basics\u201d is really important. Also, every practice of faith in the Church and among believers should be examined and restrained by theology. For this reason, although I seemed not to counter \u201cdirectly\u201d the above-mentioned problems of Hong Kong churches in the past two years, I still believe this two-year learning is immensely significant.<\/p><h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Communion with the Saints<\/strong><\/h3><p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000First, I deeply realized the comprehensiveness and profoundness of theology and how it touches people. Having learned about how various theologians organized the gospel revealed by the Triune God in Jesus Christ, and expressed their results in theological statements, I am deeply touched. It is because these are the fruits of the theological reasoning of believers in history when they chased and engaged in the works of the Triune God in this realm. Also, these efforts are ultimately for witnessing and adoring God: God has never abandoned this world of suffering; He still works and delivers salvation in this world; and the Reality of God is revealed to us here and now through the gospel of Jesus Christ. <em><strong>Whenever I think of myself actually joining all the saints in history, thinking collectively about how the Church can faithfully participate in the salvation work of the Triune God in, to and for the world, I know this is a tremendous blessing and this moves me profoundly. <\/strong><\/em><\/p><h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #235ba8; font-size: 24px;\"><strong> \u201cDoing Great Things\u201d and \u201cEveryday Life\u201d <\/strong><\/h3><p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000Moreover, in these two years, I realized that I have exaggerated the question \u201chow the Church can respond to the current social and political context of Hong Kong.\u201d I thought that only if we develop a \u201cHong Kong theology\u201d or a certain kind of \u201clocal theology\u201d could we be \u201cresponding\u201d to the current situation in Hong Kong. This assumption is probably a symptom of being poisoned by Modernism with a tendency to pursue \u201cgreatness.\u201d Such an approach which appears \u201cdown-to-earth\u201d could be, however, quite \u201cin the clouds\u201d; because it may possibly neglect or bypass the faith practice of the Church and believers.<\/p><p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000On the contrary, <em><strong>I become more and more convinced that Christian faith is not about greatness, or the so-called \u201cdoing great things\u201d; instead, it could be rather \u201csimple\u201d \u2014 being faithful as the Lord\u2019s disciple as we play our roles in everyday life<\/strong><\/em>. Of course, I am not saying that Christians should not \u201cdo great things\u201d; if God sends you to \u201cdo great things,\u201d go ahead. However, most of us are \u201cordinary people,\u201d and everyday life is the context where we as \u201cordinary people\u201d fight for our cause. For Christians, this means we can live as the Lord\u2019s faithful disciples in everyday life. The world is full of \u201cdoublespeak\u201d; Christians endeavor to talk about truth in daily life; we speak the truth because our God is the Truth. The world is heartless; Christians endeavor to take care of and love those who are not being loved in their daily life, for our God is Love. The world pays back evil with evil; Christians endeavor to accept and forgive one another in our daily life, for our God forgives us first. I believe the Triune God uses every Christian who faithfully tries to be the Lord\u2019s disciple in their everyday life and through them influences the world subtly. This is, in fact, the everyday politics of Christians or being the Lord\u2019s disciples. Maybe it is a more practical and \u201cdown-to-earth\u201d approach in response to the current social and political situation in Hong Kong, and the Church has been commissioned to train faithful disciples.<\/p><p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000In retrospect of these two years of theological training, I earnestly find that what I learned was yet essential basics. I am now searching for direction, and I will leave this to God\u2019s guidance. Finally, thanks to God and HKBTS for granting me a chance to learn theology formally. In the blink of an eye, I will leave Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary. I enrolled with a &quot;problem consciousness&quot; I still remember that one of the reasons I decided to enroll in this course was because I participated in the theological thought workshop hosted by Professor Tang Siu-kwong at the &quot;Theological Luce&quot; Bible Study Conference. This was in 2016. At that time, Professor Tang led a group of participants to think about what kind of theology is needed for the current social and political situation in Hong Kong. He also said that the Hong Kong church cannot respond to the social situation in Hong Kong because the church has not focused on thinking about this issue in the past; the church cannot respond, in fact, it is just bearing the debt it has owed for so many years; however, it is better for us to realize the problem now and start thinking about it than not thinking about it. I entered &quot;HKTS&quot; with such a &quot;problem consciousness&quot;, hoping to think about relevant issues for the church with other like-minded people. Starting from the basics Admittedly, this has never been an easy problem to sort out and solve. In addition, the theological studies in the past two years have been quite busy, and I really haven&#039;t spent much time thinking about and consolidating the relevant issues. But it is precisely because I know that &quot;laying a good foundation&quot; is very important; and all the faith practices of the church and believers should also be examined and regulated by theology; so, even though I seem to have not tried to &quot;directly&quot; deal with the above-mentioned problems related to the Hong Kong church in the past two years, I still think that these two years of study are very important. Communion with the Saints First, I deeply appreciate how profound theology is and how it can move people. I was very moved to see how different theologians sorted out the gospel revealed by the Triune God in Jesus Christ and turned the results into theological expressions, and how they thought about the meaning of the gospel to their situation for the church and the world; because these are the results of the faith thinking of believers in all ages who have tracked and participated in the work of the Triune God in the world, and this is ultimately to testify and praise God: God has not abandoned this suffering world, He is still working in the world and carrying out salvation, and God&#039;s reality is revealed to us at this moment through the gospel of Jesus Christ. When I think about how I can be among the saints of all ages, thinking together about how the church can faithfully participate in the redemptive work of the Triune God in the world, to the world, and for the world, I feel that this is a great blessing and I am deeply moved by it. &quot;Doing big things&quot; and &quot;daily life&quot; In addition, over the past two years, I have increasingly found that I have always viewed the question of &quot;how the church can respond to the current social and political situation in Hong Kong&quot; as too grand, as if I had to develop a set of theological concepts such as &quot;Hong Kong theology&quot; or &quot;local theology&quot; in order to be called a &quot;response&quot; to the current situation in Hong Kong; this can be regarded as being poisoned by the &quot;grandness&quot; that modernism emphasizes. However, this seemingly &quot;down-to-earth&quot; response can actually be very &quot;out of touch with the ground&quot;, because this has a
