This organization encourages participants to actually go into the community in person and learn what the poor really need so that they know how to respond to their needs in an appropriate manner. <\/p>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000Our tour guide pointed out that a lot of churches are aware only of the need to save people\u2019s soul but not their practical, day-to-day needs, like clothing, food, housing, jobs, etc. The guide told us they call their impoverished clients \u201cneighbor\u201d (\u201c<em>gaai fong<\/em>\u201d) instead of \u201cthe poor,\u201d because by calling them \u201cthe poor\u201d we would be labelling them as belonging to the lowest strata in society, waiting for help. To call them \u201cneighbor\u201d means approaching them as a neighbor. As their neighbor, one has to know the characteristics and culture of the neighborhood by heart so as to understand what the clients need. Otherwise we risk doing more harm than good. <\/p>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000When our guide showed us where the street sleepers stay, we were told that it is legal to sleep on the streets in Hong Kong but illegal to \u201cobstruct the street.\u201d Government officials often remove street sleepers\u2019 tents, citing \u201cremoval of street obstruction\u201d as justification. When they do so, is it the objects blocking the street or the people sleeping on the street that get more care? <\/p>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000Through the community guided tour, our guide wanted us to understand that when we help others, we should look at things from their viewpoint rather than our own. It dawned on me that very often we try our best to help our clients when what we do might not be what the clients actually need. As we serve others with love, we should not only do our best but also learn about the background of our clients in order to give them what they really need. Only by putting ourselves in their shoes can we provide service that better suits their needs. <\/p>\n<p align=\"\u201cjustify\u201d\">\u3000\u3000<em><strong>Jesus came not only to save our souls but also to restore \u201chuman identity\u201d for mankind<\/em><\/strong>; we should therefore take care of the whole person. While reconciling the relationship between God and humanity, we should not neglect their material and spiritual needs as well as their dignity so that their whole life may be transformed by Jesus. Government officials often use blocking the street as an excuse to clear the tents of street sleepers. When they do this, are the items blocking the street being cleared, or the street sleepers? The tour guide hopes that through the community tour, people will understand that we should not help others from our own perspective, but help them from the perspective of the recipients. Really, I think of how in service, many times we want to do our best to help the person we serve. However, it turns out that the efforts we make may not be what the person needs. In implementing the service of love, we should not stop at doing our best, but also understand the background of the person and help them according to their needs; not from our own perspective, but from the perspective of the person, so that we can provide more appropriate service. Jesus came not only to save people&#039;s souls, but also to restore people&#039;s own &quot;human identity&quot;. Therefore, we must care about people&#039;s entire lives. We need to restore the relationship between people and God, and also take into account their material needs, spiritual needs, and personal dignity, so that people&#039;s entire lives can experience the renewal and transformation of Jesus. What can be done should not only be material relief or the transmission of salvation knowledge, but there should be more arduous work to do.
