Our History

  • Started from Pok Oi Chuen

    1951

  • —1951
    • Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary was established; classes were initially held in the bell tower of the Kowloon City Baptist Church on Staling Road, and then moved to the new campus in Pok Oi Estate a few months later.

  • Gradual Development of Theological Education

    1957

  • The Seminary moved to the new campus at 1 Homantin Hill Road

    —1957
    • The Seminary moved to the new campus at 1 Homantin Hill Road.

    —1961
    • An Evening Bible School was set up for lay leadership training.

    —1989
    • The President's Council was formed.

    —1995
    • The Evening Bible School was renamed to Lay Theological Education Department (LTED).

    —1997
    • LTED began to offer degree programs.

  • 1998
  • The first issue of Hill Road

    —1998
    • Distance Education Program was launched.
    • The first issue of the Seminary’s bi-annual academic journal, Hill Road, was published.

  • 1999

  • The Seminary moved to the current campus at Sai O

    —1999
    • The Seminary moved to the current campus at 1 Nin Ming Road, Sai O.
    • LTED moved into Mong Kok Education Centre.

  • Further Development of Theological Education

    • The Graduate School was established offering the Master of Theology Program.

  • 2002
  • The Applied Theological Education Centre was established.

    —2002
    • The Applied Theological Education Centre was established in the Christian Centre, Mong Kok, offering courses in Christian worship, music, arts, and pastoral continuing education.

    —2011
    • The Seminary’s Sixtieth Anniversary with the theme “Soaring High in Faith, Hope and Love”
    • The commencement of the Faith, Hope, and Love Project

    —2013
    • The Doctor of Theology Program was launched.
    • The Seminary was incorporated as a non-government organization.

    —2016
    • The Seminary’s Sixty-fifth Anniversary with the theme “Glorify the Lord Almighty, Honor His Mission across Boundaries”.

    —2018
    • The commencement of the Sai O Campus Extension Project (Phase 3)
    • The Master of Arts in Christian Studies Program (evening course) was launched.

    —2019
    • The groundbreaking ceremony of the new academic building under the “Faith, Hope, and Love Project” was held.

  • 2021
  • The Seminary’s Seventieth Anniversary

    —2021
    • The Seminary’s Seventieth Anniversary with the theme “Endowed in Grace for 70 Years; Forward with Faith, Hope, and Love”

    —2023
    • The new academic building opened for full operation.
    • LTED and Distance Education Program revamped their programs and offered Bachelor of Arts/Higher Diploma/Diploma Programs in Christian Studies respectively.
