A Visit to Shek Pik Prison
A Cold Wave, a Warmth Student Union Mission Department received help from Pastor Zheng Junye of the Renewal Society and arranged for nine students to visit inmates at Shek Pik Adult Men's Prison on January 17. A cold wave had just hit Hong Kong that day. After the students took a bus from Tung Chung to Shek Pik, they faced the biting cold wind and walked for more than ten minutes on a slope to reach the heavily guarded Shek Pik Prison. The meeting was divided into morning and afternoon sessions and was attended by more than 40 inmates, most of whom were young people who had not yet believed in the Lord. He Shiyong (MCS), Master of Christian Studies. First Chronicles 29:15 records David's words: "For we are strangers and sojourners before you, as all our fathers were." Similar words appear in Genesis, Psalms, and Hebrews. These words resonate particularly deeply with me, as I am "a stranger in a strange land." Coming to Hong Kong to study alone, I deeply feel the hardships of travel. Sometimes, looking at the Liu Yuesheng Memorial Building on campus, I wonder, "Would the pioneers who migrated to Hong Kong and founded Baptist Theological Seminary also have felt the same hardships of travel?" This is how God places us in this great tide, allowing us to endure various trials along the journey and to gain supplies at various stops, where we rest, heal, and gain strength, so that we can deeply understand the truth of our faith—that the Lord Jesus not only gives us life, but also gives us life to the fullest. ...
