content This course helps students understand eight passages from the Gospel of Mark from a historical research perspective and a Jewish viewpoint, thereby learning about "responsible ethical reading of the Bible".
Contents:
  1. What is the Cleanliness Ordinance? Rereading the story of curing leprosy (1:39-44)
  2. Jesus and Melchizedek: The Jubilee in the Gospel of Mark (2:1-12)
  3. A verbal battle on the Sabbath (2:23-28)
  4. Do pigs know how to swim? The contemporary significance of driving ghosts into a pig herd (4:35-5:20)
  5. Overflowing Power: When Jesus Meets the Woman with the Issue of Blood (5:25-34)
  6. "All food is clean"? The 99% translation doesn't tell you (7:1-23)
  7. Does the tearing of the veil truly signify reconciliation? (15)
  8. "They were afraid": The abrupt ending in the Gospel of Mark (16)
