Excerpt from the “Chapel Hour”: True to What Is Entrusted

Mr. Shun Shaolin, Visiting Assistant Professor of New Testament Scripture: Amos 7:10-17 I think everyone must find it strange that a person who reads the New Testament and studies Paul would actually choose an Old Testament passage when preaching . I did want to talk about Paul at first, but there was a passage that still lingered in my mind for several months. It was Amos 7:10-17. ...

Testimonies of God’s Calling Meeting

Flesh and grace, one campmate described this "Call to Testimony Sharing Session" as "flesh and grace," and it was one of the most touching sessions. In this sharing session, one of our classmates and two alumni talked about their calling and their experiences in studying theology. The space here is limited, so I can only extract small paragraphs from three stories to share with readers. I hope that even though the paragraph is small, it still allows you to see the vastness of God’s grace. ...

A Reflection on the Handling of Historical Data and Statistics of Hong Kong Churches from a Study of Hong Kong Denominations

Nathan Ng, Associate Professor of Christian Thought (Church History), wrote a series of articles in the "Tracing the Origins" series of the journal *Times Forum* from July 2006 to June 2007, tracing the origins of the church's doctrines, traditions, denominational organizations, and various aspects of the Chinese church today. The most frequent responses were to introductions to the historical roots of various denominations; this revealed that Chinese Christians in Hong Kong are indeed troubled by the proliferation of denominations and yearn for greater understanding and clarification of their relationships. To address this need within the Hong Kong church, and coinciding with a publisher's request for a manuscript, he decided to conduct in-depth research and write *A Tour of the Ten Major Hong Kong Denominations*, comprehensively exploring the origins, development, belief systems, and current status of the major denominations in Hong Kong. ...

The Seminary-wide Prayer Meeting

May we start the new school year with prayer and break new ground. This is the first time that the college’s “Whole-School Prayer Meeting” was held in advance on the third day of the new school year. This year we are particularly "rushing forward" in prayer because we are especially eager for all the teachers, students, and co-workers of the school to start the new school year with prayer, praying that the benefactor will personally lead the way forward for the school when "Baptism" is facing changes, and also May the Lord use us, a group of humble and weak people, to work together to open up a new world in this land that will continue to glorify Him. ...

Pray That God Will Raise Up Those Who Proclaim the Gospel

Tong Hon-sun (M.Div. 1) and his wife, Siu-lin, began with a prayer. From October to December 2007, I followed my church's Bible reading plan and read the books of the Minor Prophets, using them as a devotional. Under the theme of "God's Judgment," I encountered a recurring message: God wants to destroy those who refuse to repent and follow Him, but He truly is unwilling to do so. This message inspired me to pray frequently for one thing: that God would raise up more people to proclaim His gospel. ...

What did Paul say...how did he say...? ——Rethinking Paul’s Language Training

In a recent article discussing the Hellenization movement, renowned New Testament scholar Graham Stanton, referring to Paul's language training, concluded: "Paul's first language was probably Greek, and during his education in Palestine, he also learned fluent Aramaic and Hebrew. He was influenced by Greek culture from birth and had a certain familiarity with Greek poetry, which he could quote when necessary (Acts 17:28; 1 Corinthians 15:33; Titus 1:12)."1...
