TEFL-- A Mission Field Comes to Us

Jerry E. Juergens (HKBTS's Emeritus Professor, Director of TEFL Program) Ten Years of Cultivation: Alternative Practices in Missionary Ministry As a missionary field came to us, HKBTS experienced a wonderful role reversal and made alternative practices in missionary ministry. There are more than 150,000 Filipinos working and living in Hong Kong, most of whom are female domestic workers. Some of these workers from overseas became Christians in Hong Kong, while others have already believed in the Lord in their hometowns and are believers in the Philippine Church. In the Filipino Baptist Church in Hong Kong, a group of believers were raised up by God. They were called to become leaders of the church and were in urgent need of leadership training and theological equipment. Due to this need, over the past ten years, HKBTS has worked with the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary (Philippine...

The Spiritual Growth Journey of Walking with God

Yeung Wing-ka (M.Div.) Wing-ka, his wife Shi Ling, and his daughter Wei En. The unexpected answer. The past three years of my life as a seminarian have been a journey of spiritual growth with God. During this time, I discovered God’s work—He led me step by step to become His servant through the support of my family, the guidance of my teachers, and the care of my classmates, so that I can serve Him and others in the years ahead. ...

The Community That Brings Healing to Life

Lee Kar-lo (M.Div.) Spiritual companion (Kar-lo is the first on the right) Baptist Theological Seminary has become my spiritual home. I still remember that when I first entered school, I went to the freshman orientation day with a trembling heart. I thought that I would have to go to camp with a group of people I didn’t know, and it was a spiritual training camp. I really didn’t want to do it at all… Before we entered the camp, the dean shared with a group of freshmen on the stage. He mentioned that he hoped that the seminary could become our second spiritual home. To me, this place and the people around me were very unfamiliar, but it was amazing that the dean’s words touched and warmed my heart at that moment. For me, who had been wandering in other places for a few years before entering school, a spiritual home was really what I longed for in my heart. I am grateful, because now looking back on the days of studying theology, Baptist Theological Seminary has not only become the place where God rebuilt me, but also my spiritual home! ...

The Only Response I Could Make…

Yuen Lai-wah (M.Div. 1) A car accident brought a shock of love In June 2011, my husband Guoxiong and I traveled to Bali. Soon after we got off the plane in Bali, we drove our motorcycles to the market. I was sitting on the back seat of the motorcycle, humming "The Most Beautiful True Love" happily and relaxedly, when our motorcycle suddenly lost control and overturned on the road. The only memories left in my mind are: the motorcycle lost balance in an instant, and I didn't have time to react. I only heard the sound of glass shattering and the sound of the helmet rubbing against the ground, and my eyes were close to a ground sliding forward rapidly... As a result, a miracle happened to us. Guoxiong and I only had skin injuries, no fractures, and no life-threatening. I can only say: apart from God's great power and protection, there is nothing else. ...

Have I Not Commanded You…

Chan Sze-chung (B.Th. 1) Good Friday: I felt nothing in my heart When I was in the second year of secondary school, I was touched by God's great love of sacrifice at a sermon and decided to believe in Jesus. However, my subsequent faith life was not stable. I was deeply troubled by my frequent weaknesses and falls. After graduating from secondary school, I only went to church intermittently, and my relationship with God became increasingly alienated. Despite this, God's love and grace never left me. He listened to my cries from the bottom again and again; when I was lost, He still taught me and led me without abandoning me. ...

Loder and Life Transformation: How Does the Holy Spirit Work During Life's Changes?

Rev. Brian Lam (Chaplain, Director of Field Education and Lecturer of Practical Theology) One day in 2011, I was chatting with Teacher Deng Shaoguang, and he mentioned a scholar who taught in the seminary in the United States and specialized in the integration of theology and psychology. In the summer of the same year, Brother Shaoguang mentioned this scholar again when he preached at the spiritual training camp of the college. So I began to study his works. He is James Luda, who is going to be introduced in this article...

HKBTS’s Morning Chapel ── Communal Worship and Spiritual Formation

The morning meeting is the collective worship of our faith community, which is part of spiritual exercise and spiritual development. The seminary inherits two traditions: on the one hand, as a theological education institution, we inherit the academic tradition, allowing students to gain a solid foundation in biblical and theological knowledge and receive multiple training and equipment for the ministry of preaching; on the other hand, we also Continuing the monastic tradition of the Christian church, it attaches great importance to the cultivation of the character and spiritual life of the entire group, and the morning meeting is a concrete manifestation of the worship and spiritual practice of the entire group. ...

Stepping into the Sixteenth Year of Distance Education

The distance education course of our college was established in 1998. Last year we just held our 15th anniversary thanksgiving party, and this year we have entered our 16th year. The vision of "distance" is to break through the traditional learning model so that believers can receive theological equipment without being restricted by time and geography. It is an independent, self-study course where students can flexibly arrange their study progress according to their personal circumstances. ...
