The Fisher-girl Chosen by God

Lai Suk-fun (M.Div. 1) The little wish of a “fisherman’s daughter” “You formed my inmost being; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13) I deeply understand the meaning of this verse because I was born into a Christian family and followed my mother to church in her womb. Being able to come into contact with the gospel and know the Lord Jesus since childhood is the best gift my parents gave me and the most beautiful blessing in my life. ...

It Is Quality that Counts in Church Music Ministry

Sanson Lau Director of Edna Wong Christian Worship Arts and Education Center In the past 10 to 20 years, European and American countries have successively implemented educational reforms, and similar movements have been launched in regions that are deeply influenced by the European and American economy and culture, such as Japan, Taiwan, and even Hong Kong. Unfortunately, the reforms in various places are all based on the economy, so that the right to speak and the right to make decisions on educational ideals, ideas, directions, and policies mostly fall into the hands of senior officials who are in charge of financial affairs. Naturally, the educational ideal has shifted from the more metaphysical orientation of "cultivating the whole person", "developing a complete personality", and "seeking truth, goodness, and beauty" to considering what equipment the educated people should have when they grow up in today's world of "infinite economic life". ...

Don’t Be the Older Son

Ip Yuen-cheong (M.Div. 3) Scripture: Luke 15:1-32 (Reference: Luke 16:14) From the perspective of "loss" If one day you find your cell phone is missing while you are out, how would you react? Damn! You would search everywhere, even if you are late to find it! Desk? Computer desk? Then go to the bedroom, kitchen, and finally use the home phone to call the cell phone number. If you hear a ringing sound somewhere, you will breathe a sigh of relief. If there is no ringing sound, it is terrible! ...

TEFL-- A Mission Field Comes to Us

Jerry E. Juergens (HKBTS's Emeritus Professor, Director of TEFL Program) Ten Years of Cultivation: Alternative Practices in Missionary Ministry As a missionary field came to us, HKBTS experienced a wonderful role reversal and made alternative practices in missionary ministry. There are more than 150,000 Filipinos working and living in Hong Kong, most of whom are female domestic workers. Some of these workers from overseas became Christians in Hong Kong, while others have already believed in the Lord in their hometowns and are believers in the Philippine Church. In the Filipino Baptist Church in Hong Kong, a group of believers were raised up by God. They were called to become leaders of the church and were in urgent need of leadership training and theological equipment. Due to this need, over the past ten years, HKBTS has worked with the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary (Philippine...

The Community That Brings Healing to Life

Lee Kar-lo (M.Div.) Spiritual companion (Kar-lo is the first on the right) Baptist Theological Seminary has become my spiritual home. I still remember that when I first entered school, I went to the freshman orientation day with a trembling heart. I thought that I would have to go to camp with a group of people I didn’t know, and it was a spiritual training camp. I really didn’t want to do it at all… Before we entered the camp, the dean shared with a group of freshmen on the stage. He mentioned that he hoped that the seminary could become our second spiritual home. To me, this place and the people around me were very unfamiliar, but it was amazing that the dean’s words touched and warmed my heart at that moment. For me, who had been wandering in other places for a few years before entering school, a spiritual home was really what I longed for in my heart. I am grateful, because now looking back on the days of studying theology, Baptist Theological Seminary has not only become the place where God rebuilt me, but also my spiritual home! ...

The Only Response I Could Make…

Yuen Lai-wah (M.Div. 1) A car accident brought a shock of love In June 2011, my husband Guoxiong and I traveled to Bali. Soon after we got off the plane in Bali, we drove our motorcycles to the market. I was sitting on the back seat of the motorcycle, humming "The Most Beautiful True Love" happily and relaxedly, when our motorcycle suddenly lost control and overturned on the road. The only memories left in my mind are: the motorcycle lost balance in an instant, and I didn't have time to react. I only heard the sound of glass shattering and the sound of the helmet rubbing against the ground, and my eyes were close to a ground sliding forward rapidly... As a result, a miracle happened to us. Guoxiong and I only had skin injuries, no fractures, and no life-threatening. I can only say: apart from God's great power and protection, there is nothing else. ...
