The Choral Singing Ministry of Our Seminary Students over the Past 59 Years

A little historical review: Not every called person is born with a good singing voice, but in the hearts of all called people, there is a hymn connected to the calling; and a group of called people’s most authentic singing is the "baptism of God" ” Characteristics of the choir and “God-baptizing” sacred music gatherings. Over the past fifty-nine years, our generations of theological students and generations of called people have witnessed God’s faithfulness and grace through singing. Their singing has also become a continuous testimony of “Baptist God” in front of everyone and all churches. ...

The Feelings of One Who Listened to Graduating Preaching

Chan Lai-wa (3rd year BAPS student) Arranging for graduating students to preach at the morning assembly was a new initiative this year. For these students, who have only just begun their careers, being able to cut their teeth in the academy is a welcome opportunity. However, standing before teachers, classmates, and co-workers to preach is no easy task. It's a tremendous challenge, and I'm sure everyone struggled internally! We applaud these students for having the courage to embrace the practice of preaching. ...

The Feelings of a Graduating Preacher

The Wong Pak-ming (M.Div.) Graduating Class: A Step in Preaching. For me, August 2009 marked the beginning of my final year as a seminarian. At the start of the semester, I told myself, "Time flies. I must cherish everything and everyone around me!" Giving the graduation sermon is a rare opportunity, so shouldn't I cherish it? It sounds easy, but looking back now, I stepped onto the seminary podium with trepidation that day! ...

Dribs and Drabs from the Graduating Sermons

We have extracted the following passages from the sermons of three graduating students to share the sermon information with readers. Although these paragraphs are only a small part of the entire sermon and are inevitably a bit fragmented, we still hope that readers who are unable to attend the morning meeting can share bits and pieces of the graduation sermon. Somewhat coincidentally, these three sermons jointly reveal the would-be evangelists' spiritual reflections on their own duties from different levels...

The Unforgettable "Graduating Preaching"

The "Graduation Sermon" added this academic year will give the graduating class an unforgettable experience. This class of students has an opportunity that many senior brothers and sisters have never had - to stand on the podium at the college's morning meeting and preach information in front of teachers, classmates and a group of co-workers in the college. Precisely because they are prospective preachers who are about to leave school and apprentices who are about to "fulfill their teachings", the college feels that it is necessary to give them a special opportunity to preach and practice, so that they can be encouraged and reminded, and they can continue to preach throughout their lives. Forget the reminder from your alma mater: Preaching is an extremely important ministry of the preacher. ...

From Bible Translation to Teaching

Tony Sher (Assistant Professor of Old Testament) As I write this, the new academic year at the seminary begins. This is my first year teaching full-time at HKTS. Although I have participated in teaching at HKTS over the past two years, both were as a part-time adjunct lecturer. The day I become a full-time teacher also marks my farewell to the past decade of Bible translation work. Therefore, this is an appropriate time to reflect on the journey I have taken and the road ahead.

Have I Heard God’s Call Wrongly?

Lam Chi-ching (Graduate of the M.Div. Program) constantly struggles with the question: Did I mishear my calling? It's been four years since I entered seminary in 2006 to begin my theological training and graduate this year. Looking back on these four years, I've experienced many ups and downs. Changes in people and events around me have impacted me, creating numerous challenges in my theological career. I've often asked God, "Do I have the ability to complete the entire theological program?" and "Did I mishear my calling?" These inner struggles have recurred over the years, but God has repeatedly shown me His mercy through these struggles. He has continually strengthened my faith and reliance on Him, allowing me to gain a deeper appreciation for His faithfulness and mercy. ...

Don’t Be Slow to Pay Your Vow

Lee Tin-wai (M.Div. 1) From a young age, I saw how real the God my parents served was. Born and raised in a Christian family, I was blessed by the Lord's grace. Going to church every Sunday and attending Sunday school were a lifestyle I'd known and embraced from a young age. My parents are preachers. Through their faith in God and their ministry, I've witnessed how God cares for and blesses our family. Although for many years our family relied solely on my father's salary, God always provided for us, ensuring we had no lack. Later, God led my father to pastor a church in Australia, and our family immigrated. Back in Australia, God miraculously provided enough money for my parents to buy a house—a house God had prepared for their retirement years. This demonstrates how complete God's provision is, surpassing all human expectations. These experiences have allowed me to witness firsthand from a young age the real God my parents serve. ...

Piercing through Thorns

Mung Kin-sang (M.Div. 1), Master of Divinity, first year. Full-time ministry seemed so far away. I made my Christian commitment a year before graduating from university. Looking back, my heart burned with fervor, including spiritual practice, Sunday school, and evangelism. One day, I prayed at home, "God! I want to serve You full-time in the future!" At that moment, I firmly believed that God had heard my prayer. ...
