A Lingering Spiritual Urge

It has been 20 years since Zhang Ting, a first-year Master of Divinity student, escaped death and became a Christian in Alice Springs. I have been serving zealously. Perhaps when others see that I am actively involved in gospel ministry, they often ask me if I have considered becoming a preacher. I firmly deny it because I don’t think God has such a calling for me. Furthermore, I wholeheartedly want to be a "strong woman", but I feel that working hard in the workplace and serving with all my heart in my spare time is already ideal. Therefore, I never thought about being a preacher until a “miracle” happened and I heard God’s call for the first time. ...

How Hard It Is to Leave behind the Nets Immediately

In the first year of Zhang Weichun's Master of Taoism, the thought of suppressing his studies for eleven years resurfaced. In 1997, I went to Seattle, USA to study and lived with my eldest sister. In October of the same year, my eldest sister, my church choir, and I went to Vancouver to visit other churches. On the night of our return, my eldest sister, two brothers and sisters and I drove back to Seattle. While the brother was driving, the sister laughed and said, "Brother, are your driving skills okay?" The brother replied, "Don't worry, we have eternal life!" After a while, he said again, "No, the little one sitting in the back is okay." My younger brother has not yet believed in the Lord. “Little brother, do you want to believe in the Lord?” I nodded and responded, “Yes.” When I got home, they led me to pray for a decision, and I became a Christian. ...

What Is (Not) Public Theology?

Professor Deng Shaoguang of Christian Thought (Theology and Culture) - What exactly is the "public theology" that has emerged in Western theological circles in the past two decades? Do we really have something called “public theology”? In English there are public theology and theory of the public. Of course, the meaning of "public theology" in Western theological circles cannot be determined solely by the use of English words. However, this short article of the author does not intend to examine the "public theology" of Western theology, but aims to provide personal reflections. The following article will first start with these two English words, and use their traditional usage to show what the author personally thinks: "What public theology (is not)", so as to provide a negative and negative definition of "public theology" , and at the same time shows its positive and affirmative meaning. ...

Responses

In recent years, many theological schools in Hong Kong have successively launched doctorate in philosophy and pastoral ministry courses. I thought to myself: Why has it still not been long since the Baptist School launched a doctoral program? I believe this is also the expectation of many students, alumni, and pastors. Recently, I learned from a teacher that "Baptist God" will soon launch a doctoral program in theology. I am really grateful for the college and theological students, as well as the church and the pastor. For "Baptist", this marks the beginning of a new page in the college's important mission of cultivating church successors. I believe that the new curriculum will adhere to the teaching philosophy that the college has always valued, which is to combine teaching, research, and pastoral training. On the one hand, it will cultivate teaching talents who can devote themselves to theological education in the future. On the other hand, it will also improve the teaching and pastoral skills of in-service pastors. Maintain quality in ministry. ...

Walking on Nin Ming Road: Reflection on Education and Theological Education

A New Chapter

Au Siu-yin (M.Div.) Three years ago, in the midsummer, I began a new chapter in my life at Baptist Theological Seminary with trepidation. I entered seminary to be trained because my calling from God was clear, and I had a deep peace and assurance in my heart. However, since my home was quite far from the seminary, the daily commute to school was long and physically exhausting. Furthermore, having left school nearly twenty years ago, and considering my advanced age, reentering a new environment and pursuing a full-time program was a tremendous challenge. Furthermore, balancing my demanding studies with family life and church service was no easy feat. Looking back now, I can't fully recall how I navigated these challenges and pressures. I only know that God's grace remained unwavering throughout this period, and it only grew more abundant!
