The Characteristics of a Preacher
Choy Lai-shun (M.Div. 3) Scripture: Acts 8:26-40 Introduction Today I will share with you the story of Philip preaching the gospel to the Ethiopian eunuch and learn from it. From Acts 8:5-6, we know that Philip could not only preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, but also perform miracles, and his gospel work in Samaria had quite good results. Verse 6 says, "And the people with one accord obeyed Philip's words, when they heard and saw these miracles which he did." Verse 8 further says, "And there was great joy in that city." This is a really beautiful picture! I believe that everyone must expect their gospel work to have such results. We all look forward to our gospel objects "with one accord obeying" our words and "with great joy." However, we also understand that the results of the gospel work are not something we can fully control. Because this is the scope of the Holy Spirit's work, just as Paul taught the Corinthian church, he said: "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth." (1 Corinthians 3:6) As preachers, what we can do is to plant and water, and think about how to do our duty. Therefore, today, through Philip's story of preaching the gospel to the Ethiopian eunuch, let us think together: What qualities should a preacher have? What qualities should we learn? ...
