Sowing the Seeds of Change under Urban Renewal

The tour guide took the students into the streets and alleys of Yau Ma Tei, allowing us to get to know this old community that is facing reconstruction. We first came to Portland Street. There are several cross-border direct bus stations here, and next to it is a new cluster of hotels that stand out among the surrounding old district facilities. The tour guide pointed out that the development of Hong Kong's tourism industry has led to the closure of many old-fashioned shops. As small shops closed down, the personal connections gradually faded away, and the strong human touch of the old community is no longer there. ...
